BLOC QUÉBÉCOIS
Gilles Duceppe, Leader
|
Party Policy
The Bloc does not currently have an approved policy for or against equal marriage.
Based on the percentage of incumbent MPs who voted in favour of Bill C-38 (the equal marriage bill). Absences are not included. The Bloc ranked second of the four parties with elected MPs. 100% is a perfect score.
It is expected that most, if not all, of the 10 new Bloc MPs will vote against re-opening equal marriage.
Leader - Gilles Duceppe
Gilles Duceppe is personally a strong supporter of equal marriage, dating back to at least 1999 when he voted against a Reform Party motion to define marriage in exclusively heterosexual terms. During the 2005 equal marriage debate in Parliament, Mr. Duceppe spoke eloquently about why equal marriage was the right thing to do.
