Don't Re-Open Equal Marriage Statement:
The courts have spoken, Canadians debated the issue for years, and in 2005
Parliament decided. Equal Marriage is the law of the land, a law that protects both equality rights
and freedom of religion. Parliament must not seek to pass a law to exclude same-sex couples from
civil marriage, a law it knows is almost certainly unconstitutional. It must not re-open this
divisive debate. It's time to move on.
We call on the Parliament of Canada to leave the Civil Marriage Act alone, and
not to re-define civil marriage to exclude same-sex couples.
