About Canadians for Equal Marriage

Canadians for Equal Marriage is a nation-wide, bilingual campaign made up of individuals and organizations from all walks of Canadian life and all political stripes, including those with no political affiliation.

Our Partners include Egale Canada, PFLAG Canada, the Canadian Federation of Students, the Canadian Labour Congress, the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Canadian Association of University Teachers, among others.

Canadians for Equal Marriage works at the grassroots, in the media, in Parliament, and beyond. Our priority is to persuade MPs to oppose any measures to take away equal marriage by channeling grass-roots web-based lobbying, directly lobbying MPs, encouraging gay and non-gay organizations and individuals to speak out, and maintaining a strong voice in the media.

We ask you to take four steps to make a difference in the upcoming vote in Parliament:

Step 1: MP ACTION – get MP info and send e-mail message to MPs
Step 2: SIGN OUR PETITION – voice your support for preserving equal marriage
Step 3: DONATE TO CAMPAIGN – give us the financial capacity to act
Step 4: INVITE YOUR FRIENDS, family and colleagues - to visit our website and take action

Canadians for Equal Marriage has adopted the following

Don't Re-Open Equal Marriage Statement
The courts have spoken, Canadians debated the issue for years, and in 2005 Parliament decided. Equal Marriage is the law of the land, a law that protects both equality rights and freedom of religion. Parliament must not seek to pass a law to exclude same-sex couples from civil marriage, a law it knows is almost certainly unconstitutional. It must not re-open this divisive debate. It's time to move on.

We would like to thank Pink Triangle Press and Leo Burnett Canada as well as our web team –
